About Rebecca Ramsay
“Building a business shouldn’t require burning yourself down to keep it alive.”

Me at midnight, family asleep, in the early days (and still in the arena in 2026), fathoming out ecommerce…
Hi, I’m Rebecca – and I see you.
I help aspiring founders – store builders who want to become founders – build profitable, customer-centred ecommerce brands without letting the business take over their lives.
Most ecommerce advice teaches you how to grow. I believe it should first help you understand what’s worth growing – and why your customer would choose it.
That means starting with someone you understand, creating an offer they value and building an experience that earns their trust, their next purchase and their recommendation.
The Founder’s Margin™
The Founder’s Margin™ is built on a simple belief: a successful business should leave you with something valuable after the expenses and daily demands have taken their share.
Profit, yes. But also time to think, energy to live and enough breathing room to withstand a difficult month without everything collapsing.
That is the founder’s margin.
So the question I ask is:
How can you build a business that serves your customer well and gives you a worthwhile return on your time, energy and experience?
Premium offers, healthy margins, operational simplicity and strategic use of AI all contribute. Your customer needs a business that delivers on its promise. You need one you can sustain.
Why Margin Comes First
For more than thirteen years, I’ve built ecommerce businesses – from Amazon FBA brands to profitable online stores – through changing platforms, algorithms and increasingly competitive markets.
I’ve lived the exciting launches, the expensive mistakes and the reality that growth often creates complexity you never asked for.
Like many store builders, I believed the answer was always to work harder. Chase another product. Build another store. Optimise another funnel. Surely the breakthrough was just one more attempt away.
Then came my premium fine jewellery business…
I genuinely believed it would become the business I’d build for years. Instead, it became the biggest wake-up call of my ecommerce career.
Advertising costs increased. Margins tightened. Complexity multiplied. The business consumed the capital I’d spent years building.
Eventually, I ran out of runway and completely burned out.
At first, I thought the problem was money. Looking back, I realised that running out of capital had exposed deeper problems in how I was building the business.
I had to rethink what made a business worth growing.
Today, I look for healthy margins alongside real customer value: an offer worth paying for, a promise you can keep and reasons for your customer to return.
Winning the order is only the beginning. If the product disappoints, communication falls short or the relationship ends at delivery, you lose opportunities to build on that first sale.
Premium brands protect margin by protecting the promise they make.
That thinking shapes what I teach: build around your customer, protect the economics and remove unnecessary complexity – so the business can become stronger without consuming more and more of you.
My work draws on years of building stores, testing ideas and learning from the consequences. Alongside it, I’m building a life around the sport, family and freedom I love.
Which platforms have I used?
I’ve worked extensively with Shopify and WooCommerce. Most of my most successful stores were built on WooCommerce, and I still build with it today.
After more than a decade inside the platform, I know how much thought sits behind a seemingly simple store: helping your customer understand the offer, feel confident about buying and know what happens next.
On my upcoming YouTube channel, Rebecca Ramsay – The Founder’s Margin, I’ll share a free, step-by-step WooCommerce series, examples from previous builds and where AI can genuinely improve the work.
How I help store builders become founders
The approach I teach starts with understanding your customer and doing the right work in the right sequence.
1. Start
Get clear on your strengths, constraints, financial reality and the life you want your business to support. Then identify the customer you want to serve: what they need, what they value and where you could offer something better.
2. Validate
Create your Minimum Viable Offer™ – the simplest version of your commercial proposition—and test its positioning, promise and pricing with your intended customer. Build evidence of demand before committing more heavily.
3. Improve
Use sales, customer feedback and your numbers to improve the offer and experience. Address confusion, disappointment and unnecessary costs while strengthening what works.
4. Build
Develop your Minimum Viable Brand™ around a validated offer and a clear promise. Connect your positioning, product, content, email and operations so your customer experiences the same care throughout.
5. Compound
Give satisfied customers reasons to return and recommend you. Reinvest in the relationships, systems and improvements that help your brand become more valuable and less dependent on your constant involvement.
The goal is a profitable, resilient business that earns customer loyalty while protecting your margin along the way.
What Margin Looks Like in Practice
Healthy Profit – Enough room to serve customers properly, withstand setbacks and reinvest in strengthening the business.
Founder Capacity – Time, energy and attention to make sound decisions and have a life beyond the daily work.
Operational Simplicity – Dependable processes that make the business easier to run and the customer experience more consistent.
Strategic Use of AI – Help with research, repetitive work and decision-making, guided by your knowledge and judgment.
Compounding Assets – A trusted brand, returning customers, reliable systems and hard-won knowledge that give you something to build on tomorrow.
A Different Definition of Success
You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health, family or enjoyment of life to keep your business alive.
For me, success means building something valuable: a brand customers trust and the choice to keep growing it, invest from it, or eventually sell what you’ve built.
More ownership, resilience, choice and flexibility.
That’s what The Founder’s Margin™ is really about.
